Snapshot: Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza

My friend Jenny and I were by David’s Bridal in the Cranbrook Village Shopping Center looking at wedding dresses, and after some exhausting maneuvering in and out of gigantic, heavy dresses, was looking for something to eat. Right across the street, delicious smells were coasting my way from Tony Sacco’s. We hadn’t previously heard about them, but the amazing scent of pizza was enough for us to go in.  I rarely lug the Canon 6D out while I’m shopping, so please forgive the iPhone quality photos.

We could see the namesake Coal Oven from the entryway, with flames and flying pizza dough and everything. While the menu didn’t have the same range of options as somewhere like Mani or Bigalora, it was much more generous in terms of size and price.  A medium pizza was more than enough for the two of us to share, with leftovers for another meal at home.

The Greek Pizza we got had olive oil, roasted garlic, romano & basil sauce, mozzarella, feta cheese, green olives, red onions, banana peppers, fresh roma tomatoes & spinach, and fresh basil. The pizza was thin, described as New York style pizza by our waiter, and although I don’t eat crust, the crust here was delightfully thin but fluffy.  It’s definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve had lately.  I’ll definitely stop by the next time I’m here looking at wedding gowns or shopping at Whole Foods!  Check them out on Yelp or at their website.

  1. I’m torn about this place – It did taste good and I live close to it, but the selection was pretty weak. I don’t think it’s in the same range as mani or Bigalora. Or even Neopapalis. And if you eat there and don’t want pizza, there’s not much else for you. It’s great for takeout tho.

    • I agree, there definitely isn’t very much variety or the usual list of fancy toppings. I did think that the pizza they made was very tasty and done well. I’d definitely rather get pizza from them than from somewhere like Domino’s. I actually went to Mani the other day and did not get any pizza, and was really pleasantly surprised at how good their baked chicken and pappardelle were!
