Village Whiskey | Philly
Our friends recommended the Village Whiskey for burgers. They are technologically up to speed as they took our phone number and texted us when our table was getting ready, so we could walk around the block at ease without worrying about our table being given to someone else. I’m not a huge whiskey drinker but I was certainly impressed by the wide range of bottles here, requiring a ladder to reach the top shelf. We got the Worldly Whiskey flight, my favorite of which was the Amrut Single Malt, which was a fun meander into some whiskey tasting, although they were actually out of the Hibiki Japanese Harmony, and had to substitute a different whiskey; not like my naive palate could tell the difference but still unprofessional because we were not informed until the flight was already brought out. Unfortunately, I found all of the whiskies too strong for my taste, although I’m sure a more mature connoisseur would be in wonderland. The pickled tomatoes were delightful, probably my favorite part of the meal. The duck fat fries were mediocre, and I’m glad we got the cheese sauce on the side because it was awful. Everyone likes their burgers juicy, but not so much that it covers your plate in meat water and there’s no place to set down your bun. $40/person, would bring your whiskey-loving friends but otherwise can go down the street for Shake Shack.
