Snapshot: Neehee’s in Canton, MI
After we had Curry on Crust, we went next door to NeeHee’s to check out what has been called some of the best Indian Street Food in southeast Michigan. The place was huge, with bright displays and buzzers, and it was packed, even late at night on a weekday.
We got some Chole Bhature, which came with amazing fried dough. The bread was puffy, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside! The chickpeas and spicy sauce were delicious, and the onions were perfect! This was really heavy though, and I could only have a few bites.
We also got some fantastic Paani Poori, small hollow puff pastries that are so fun to punch in and fill. You make a little hole in the top, then scoop in spicy potato mix, then top it off with mint cilantro and tamarind chutney. These provide the perfect mix of flavors and textures that you get to eat in one bite. Adorable! I wish we could have gotten one of their two foot dosas, but unfortunately these can’t be packaged to-go.
Lastly, even though we probably shouldn’t have, we got some falooda, which is a cold sweet drink with rose syrup, vermicelli, basil seeds, and milk. We were able to add in a scoop of ice cream as well, and they had really interesting flavors including saffron pistachio, fennel, fig. This was a delicious treat to top off the night with!
I really wish I could come back and explore more of their menu, especially some of their Chinese-Indian fusion dishes! Check them out on Yelp or at their website!
