Sharing restaurant experiences through photography!
Egg Harbor Cafe is full of roosters and chickens. The space is well-lit, and feels nice and cozy for brunch. It’s conveniently located downtown but in a little line of shops that have a nice parking lot. It’s always nice to be able to grab brunch without having to worry about parallel parking or paying at a meter. (more…)
We arrived in Cleveland a few hours early, and so decided to check out the local food scene. We stopped by Crop Kitchen, which seems to be a newer restaurant given they only have 10 reviews so far on Yelp. We visited in the middle of the afternoon, and Fred, feeling poetic, decided to write this post in the form of haikus. (more…)
I used to volunteer in a clinic in Chinatown and when we were done with the day’s patients, Saint Anna would always bring pastries and milk tea for us. There was something so fulfilling about sitting down with the whole team after a hectic morning and having hot buns and creamy drinks. We would debrief about difficult patients, ask questions about things we didn’t understand, and enjoy our snack. Saint Anna will always be associated with that learning experience, and will always have a place in my heart. (more…)
It was a cold Black Friday night. After having avoided all the crazy crowds during the day, I decided to venture out at night for something to eat. We were in the mood for something nice, it being the holiday and all, and found Francesca’s Intimo on Yelp. Luckily, we were able to book some reservations via OpenTable without much trouble, which was good because there was a wait by the time we arrived. I found that I made my decision based not on photographs I saw of the food, but rather photographs of what the location looked like. What do you find more helpful when looking at photos or reading reviews? Is it the food, or the logistics and atmosphere? Would you like to see more photos of the environment?
It snowed quite a bit on our second day in Rochester. Luckily, we only had to step outside for a second, taking the Skyway from the Doubletree hotel to Mango Thai. The restaurant had a really nice feel to it, with lots of flowers and mirrors. I started off with a friendly glass of Canti Moscato. It was light, sweet, and fruity. (more…)
It’s been a really chilly couple of days. However, it’s the holiday season, so I’m able to meet up with friends that I usually don’t get to see. To celebrate, we originally tried to go to Au Cheval, but were told to expect at least a 3 hour (!!!) wait. So instead, we opted to trek all the way across Randolph in the cold, to the Asian Fusion restaurant bellyQ that is at the very end of the street. When we arrived, having passed many a tasty option on the way down there, we were greeted with a big closed sign. Apparently, both bellyQ and its little sibling restaurant Urbanbelly are closed Thanksgiving week. So we walked all the way back up Randolph, stopping in the occasional restaurant’s outdoor shelter to peruse menus and warm up. Eventually, through the combined efforts of Yelp and crowds, we ended up at Grange Hall Burger Bar. (more…)
Once, when I was sick, Fred picked up some hot and sour soup for me from Evergreen, but I had never been to the restaurant for a full meal before. I love that they have drinking yogurt, one of my favorite treats, although you can probably buy an entire jug of it next door at Way 1 Supermarket for approximately the same price as a cup of it here. It was nonetheless delicious.
Roaring in at 400+ reviews on Yelp, Edzo’s was one of my favorite burger joints in Evanston. It’s always a little strange to revisit a place that you lived in, to see the changes (that restaurant is new!) and to return to favorites (here, Edzo’s). They’ve won tons of awards for their burgers and milkshakes, with good reason. There’s normally a line that goes out the door to Edzo’s, but I went in the dead of afternoon, and so was lucky enough to not have to wait long. I was happy to see that where they used to only be open for lunch, they are now open for dinner. (more…)
What is better than a cake? A doughnut cake! For a recent birthday, we made two doughnut cakes, one with doughnuts from Dom’s and one with doughnuts from Washtenaw Dairy. Known for their cake doughnuts, which are a fantastic texture adventure of dense yet crispy and fluffy, Washtenaw Dairy is a local favorite.

We stayed an extra day in Rochester while visiting the Mayo Clinic and decided to see what its food scene had to offer! Fred found Pannekoeken on Yelp, so we took the winding Skyway system to check it out. I was very grateful for the Skyway and Subway, because it was freezing cold.
