CloverEats: Ann Arbor’s Logan!

Pumpkin colored paint is very October.

French onion soup to amuse our bouches!

My herbed goat cheese ravioli! White wine cream sauce + rosemary, thyme.

Fred’s olive oil tuna, saffron risotto, and lemon nage!

Pear Roulade.

“Chocolate mousse.”

Logan is a contemporary American restaurant, and I feel like our trips to it are hit or miss.  Their Restaurant Week menu was fantastic, but this time, I was disappointed in my dessert.  I get chocolate mousse at almost every restaurant that I go to, and this one was much more truffle than mousse, unfortunately.  Nevertheless, Fred calls Logan his favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor (I would probably say Pacific Rim or Vinology).  Check it out on Yelp, or at its official website!

CloverSnacks: Ann Arbor’s Cupcake Station!

In undergrad, I got introduced to Chicago’s amazing cupcake scene.  Every time I took the bus downtown, I’d drop by MORE.  In Ann Arbor, there’s unfortunately no Sprinkles or Molly’s Cupcakes, but there is the cute Cupcake Station.  There are specials for each day of the week, ranging from $2 cupcakes on Tuesdays to buy 2, get 1 free on Wednesday.  They also have cute games at the tables, and a nice variety of flavors capable of satisfying my cupcake cravings.  Yum!  Check them out on Yelp or at their official website!

CloverEats: Lake Forest’s Caputo Cheese Market!

The Caputo Cheese Market has a huge selection of cheeses and meats.  They also have a small deli inside, where you can get a huge variety of sandwiches.  Fred somehow broke three sets of silverware while attempting to eat his sandwich with a plastic fork and knife.  They have outdoor seating in addition to a few tables inside, and is a lovely spot for lunch!  Check them out on Yelp!

CloverEats: Ann Arbor’s Restaurant Week: Logan

We are always the youngest table at Logan, a classic American restaurant tucked next to Frita Batido’s.  Their food is always impeccable, though usually our of our price range.  This Restaurant Week, the star of the menu was definitely the panzanella, an Italian bread salad with olives, basil, and arugula, which I don’t even normally like.  Also, their biscuits were dense and so delicious that we ate them up before remembering to take a picture.  I wish the RW menu had come with a dessert; instead, it had two appetizers and one entree, a similar style to what Pacific Rim’s menu had.  We got dessert anyway, a delightful almond cake (tasted and felt just like madeleines!) with a bourbon reduction sauce.  Apparently they have a Gruyere Custard with a caramelized onion marmalade on their regular menu; how creative and delicious!  Check out Logan on Yelp!

Restaurant Week: The Earle

I’ve been to The Earle once before, but only had wine and chocolate mousse.  Having heard wonders about their glazed duck, we returned to it for a full meal this time.  Restaurant Week is always an exciting time to try new restaurants, and The Earle did not disappoint.  The duck was succulent, with warm cinnamon apples and a sweet sauce.  Perhaps because we ate relatively early, the service was prompt, though it’s usually pretty slow.  Check them out on Yelp or at their official website!

Taste of Ann Arbor!

Sorry for the sudden hiatus; I wasn’t feeling too well and didn’t go out to any restaurants for a couple months.  But I have returned, with pictures from the Taste of Ann Arbor!

Caprese from Gratzi.

Duck buns from Vinology!

Sauerkraut slider from The Raven Club!

Bumpalicious from The Cupcake Factory!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory’s bear mascot!

Stay tuned for upcoming Restaurant Week posts!

CloverEats: amazing pastries and palm trees at Dearborn’s Shatila!

This is the second half to this last post.  The culinary adventure continued with Shatila, the largest bakery I’ve ever been to.  There are literally palm trees inside, as well as a vast array of pastries ranging from European to Middle Eastern.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here.

Delicious, beautiful, and also cheap!  What more do you want?  Check them out on Yelp or at their official website!

CloverEats: Dearborn’s Al-Ameer!

Our classmate Ali organized a trip to Dearborn to sample some of the amazing Middle Eastern cuisine at Al-Ameer, followed by delicious sweets at the biggest bakery I have ever visited, Shatila.  I ate so much delicious food, I barely had room for dessert!  Most interesting was the kebbie, which had incredibly smooth texture and a delicious flavor.  Al-Ameer also served  the most amazing falafels I have ever tried.

Check them out on Yelp, or their official website!  Thanks again to Ali for organizing!

CloverPicks: Ann Arbor’s BD’s Mongolian Grill

BD’s Mongolian Grill is on one of the Main St. corners, and every time we walk by, I can smell the grill and hear the sizzle of food being stir-fried.  Similar to Flat Top, BD’s has several lines of food and sauces.  Once chosen, the ingredients are taken up to a giant stone grill and served steaming-hot!  It’s a good type of restaurant for picky eaters, as each bowl is completely customized.

Fred’s strawberry daiquiri, and my root beer.  I love how pink the daiquiri ended up being.

BD’s Mongolian Grill seemed tasty enough, but it wasn’t particularly delicious.  Go there and get unlimited bowls if you’re super hungry, or if you’ve never been to a Mongolian Barbeque restaurant!  Check out its official website and Yelp page!

CloverEats: hash and pancakes at Ann Arbor’s Angelo’s!

Angelo’s on Catherine St. always has a big line outside of it.  There’s usually at least a twenty minute wait, if we’re lucky, but the hostess always keeps things moving, so it’s never too bad.  Furthermore, I managed to stay entertained playing with my new lens, and once we got in, we got a table with its very own space heater!

I saw a few people arriving in taxis, which makes me wonder if I’m missing something about Angelo’s.  Sure, it’s homey and the food is pretty tasty, but it just seems a little simple to me.  If it wasn’t just down the street from Fred’s place, I don’t know how often I would come; I don’t think I’d pay for a taxi just for this brunch!
