Snapshot: Iron Chef in Orange, CT

We stopped by Iron Chef while staying in Orange.  It got amazing reviews on Yelp, and we were pretty hungry and just looking for the closest place to grab a bite.  We were in for a really nice surprise!

The first thing I noticed is that it seemed like there was one husband and wife team running the whole restaurant.  The second thing I noticed was that most of the patrons were Chinese, and speaking in Chinese.  Authentic!

We started off with some dumplings.  Not only did they have an excellent skin-to-meat ratio, but they tasted amazingly fresh and homemade.  Amazing!  Seriously some of the best dumplings I’ve ever had, even better than some of the ones I’ve had in China.  That’s saying something.

We also got these refreshing Taiwanese cold pickled cucumbers.  These were so great that I ate the whole plate within a few minutes.

We originally were thinking about getting the Three Cup Chicken, but were informed that it comes bone-in, so opted for this Green Pepper Chicken instead, which was a mistake.  While nothing specific was wrong about the dish, it just wasn’t that tasty.

This Pork and Pickled Cabbage Noodle Soup was pretty bland as well, and the noodles weren’t very good.  Again, not exactly bad, but really skippable.

Overall, definitely get the dumplings, and I’m sure there are other star dishes that we didn’t happen to pick.  The service was a little slow because there was only one woman doing everything, but she was very nice. Cash only! Check them out on Yelp!
