CloverEats: Ninja City in Cleveland

NinjaCity-8

I stopped by Ninja City while visiting Cleveland. My hotel didn’t have any lunch offerings, but I was told that there were plenty of restaurants just down the block.  When I walked around, I noticed Ninja City’s large block letters, and was intrigued.  The restaurant was heavily decorated with a video game and ninja theme, as was to be expected. CloverEats: Haymarket in Chicago

Haymarket-1

We met up with some friends for lunch on NYE at Haymarket, a pub and brewery in the West Loop. Although we had a pretty large group, we were able to get seated at lunch without a wait! Also, we were able to find parking just a block away.   (more…)

CloverDrinks: La Colombe in West Loop

LaColombe-7One of the first things you notice when you walk into La Colombe is the smooth, delicious smell of coffee. The space is light, full of beautiful polished wood, and very welcoming. There isn’t a menu, but the barista was very helpful in suggesting drinks for us and describing different drink components. Our friends brought us here on NYE, and the delicious coffee definitely helped me make it to the countdown and three different parties before falling asleep! (more…)

CloverEats: a fantastic meal at Bohemian House in Chicago

Boho-2

I just had one of the best meals that I’ve had in a while.  A bunch of my friends from high school all got together downtown to go skating at the new Maggie Daley Ice ribbon, where the skate rental line was unbelievable.  Definitely bring your own skates if you’re planning to go!  Afterwards, we went to Bohemian House, a Czech/German/Austrian restaurant in River North.  We walked over, so didn’t have to worry about parking.  Also, the five of us were able to get a seat at one of their communal tables at dinnertime on a Saturday without reservations!  We were all pretty frozen at that point, so it was quite exciting that there was a section of hot cocktails.  Pictured above was the lovely Winter in Salzburg, with cognac, rosemary, apple cider, St. Germain, and lemon.  It was an extra bonus that the lemon and rosemary were literally flamed tableside, giving off an aroma of smoked herbs before the rest of the drink was poured on.  Fantastic! CloverEats: L’Albatros in Cleveland

Lalbatros-7

We went to Cleveland for a few days, and of course checked out some of the restaurants. The most highly-rated restaurant in the area where we were staying was L’Albatros. It was within walking distance from our hotel in University Circle, and we got to pass by the exploding soda can building on the way there.   (more…)

CloverEats: Olive Mediterranean Grill in Evanston

OliveMediterraneanGarden-2 Olive Mediterranean Grill (OMG) is a small place that took over the spot on Sherman that Starbucks vacated when it upgraded to a larger location down the block.  My parents have raved about it and how popular it’s gotten since it opened.  It’s a pretty simple layout with different plates you can put together.  For a casual restaurant, I really thought they had good ambiance with the use of wood and brick and interesting lights.OliveMediterraneanGarden-5 (more…)

CloverEats: Wisma in Lake Bluff

Wisma-8It was a cold, foggy day when I found Wisma on Yelp.  It has an astounding 4.5 stars, and was pretty close, so we decided to check it out.  Besides one employee, the market was empty.  The employee was very nice and helpful, explaining that we would choose from among their daily pre-made meals and then microwave them ourselves.  It’s an interesting concept.  However, it’s rather awkward to microwave the food oneself, without any specific microwaving instructions, or knowing the microwave’s particulars.

CloverSnacks: Cafe Ollie in Ypsi

Ollie-3

Ollie-4

Cafe Ollie was another stop we made while in Depot Town, Ypsilanti.  From the moment I walked in, I loved the feel of the shop.  A generous use of beautiful wood panels made it feel almost like a cabin, with just enough exposed brick and paint to give it a cool coffeehouse vibe. (more…)

CloverEats: Wagamama in Boston

Wagamama-2
I stopped by the Wagamama in the Prudential Center while I was in Boston. I really liked the wide open atmosphere of the restaurant. I came in the middle of the afternoon, and was able to get seated and served almost immediately.  The name means ‘mischievous child’ and is really fun to say.  There are only a couple locations in the US, but they have quite a few more internationally.

CloverEats: Umi Sushi in Ann Arbor

Umi-6

Umi Sushi is on Plymouth, below an apartment complex that also has a gym and a Sweetwaters. I’ve always found it interesting how similar sushi restaurants are and Umi is no exception.  There is a parking lot outside, and a gym next door should you want to work out and then have a healthy meal!
